Mercury Insurance Company Water Leak Detection Pilot Program
To help mitigate water losses, Mercury Insurance Company is introducing a pilot program where Mercury will be subsidizing the cost of smart home water monitoring devices. Mercury has partnered with two leading providers of smart water loss prevention technology – Flo by Moen and Flume.
Having a water detection device is the first line of defense to identify and prevent leaks that can result in expensive water damage claims. In a study conducted by LexisNexis Risk Solutions, homes that have a Flo device installed decreased water damage claims by 96% and in the event of a claim, the cost was reduced by 72%. During the pilot program Mercury will be offering a deeply discounted rate to help get these devices in more of their customers’ homes.
What’s the difference between the two devices?
The Flume 2 Smart water monitoring device straps to the water meter and monitors water usage and alerts the homeowner to potential leaks through the mobile app to turn off the water and address the issue. Currently, Mercury doesn’t offer a discount on the policy for water monitoring devices.
The Flo by Moen device is an active water monitoring device that alerts the homeowner to possible leaks through the mobile app. The Flo device can also automatically turn off the water in the event of a leak. Mercury insureds will save up to 8% after installing an active water shut off device like Flo by Moen.
How does the program work?
Flume 2
Flume 2 units retail for $199, but Mercury will be offering the units to HO3 policyholders during the pilot for only $75, plus tax and shipping. The units can be ordered directly from Flume and shipped to the customers home from the our co-branded web page, www.flumewater.com/partners/mercury.
Flo by Moen
Flo by Moen retails for $499 for the standard unit (.75” and 1” water lines) and $699 for the larger unit (1.25” water lines), plus the cost of installation. Mercury will be offering the standard unit for $200, and the larger unit for $350, which includes the cost of standard installation.
Customers looking to add a Flo by Moen to their home can order the discounted unit directly from Moen through www.meetflo.com/pages/partner-mercury. The device will be shipped directly to the insured along with instructions on how to set up installation of the device with one of Moen’s network of ‘FloPro’ installers.
